For medical interpreters, bilingual healthcare professionals, and translators, understanding the structure and meaning of medical terms is crucial to communicating health-related information accurately and confidently. REACH Medical Terminology Boot-Camp 1™ and Medical Terminology Boot-Camp 2™ are intensive, interactive workshops designed to help participants build a stronger foundation in medical vocabulary and expand their understanding of terms used in clinical settings.
Each Boot-Camp is an eight-hour intensive workshop that combines structured learning with dynamic, engaging activities. Participants explore the basic components of medical vocabulary and learn how prefixes, suffixes, and roots work together to form medical terms. By understanding these building blocks, participants can develop strategies for interpreting unfamiliar terminology, recognizing patterns, and understanding the meaning of commonly used medical words.
Beyond vocabulary development, the workshops introduce terminology associated with major body systems, anatomical locations, common diagnoses, and therapeutic interventions. This approach helps participants connect individual medical terms to broader concepts and better understand how terminology is used in healthcare communication.

All Medical Terminology Boot-Camps are now offered in a self-paced format, allowing you to complete the training on a day that suits your schedule. After registering, please indicate your preferred language and the date you wish to attend. You will then receive time-limited access to the corresponding lectures and learning activities.

Medical Terminology Boot-Camp 1™: Understanding the Foundations
Boot-Camp 1™ introduces participants to the fundamental components of medical terms and explores words associated with four major body systems. Through interactive exercises and practical examples, participants learn to recognize medical word structures and understand how terminology relates to anatomy, common conditions, and treatment.
Topics covered include:
- Medical prefixes, suffixes, and roots: Learn the basic building blocks of medical terminology and how they contribute to the meaning of medical words.
- Cardiovascular system: Explore terminology related to the heart, blood vessels, circulation, and common cardiovascular conditions.
- Respiratory system: Become familiar with terms associated with breathing, the lungs, and common respiratory conditions.
- Endocrine system: Review terminology related to hormones, endocrine glands, and associated medical conditions.
- Digestive system: Explore vocabulary associated with the digestive tract, digestion, and common gastrointestinal conditions.
The workshop’s interactive format encourages participants to apply what they learn through activities that reinforce vocabulary recognition and comprehension.
Medical Terminology Boot-Camp 2™: Expanding Your Medical Vocabulary
Boot-Camp 2™ builds on medical vocabulary development by introducing common abbreviations and acronyms and exploring additional body systems. Participants learn terms that frequently appears in healthcare conversations, clinical documentation, and discussions of diagnoses and treatment plans.
Topics covered include:
- Common medical abbreviations and acronyms: Understand frequently used shortened forms in healthcare communication.
- Immune system: Explore terminology related to immunity, immune responses, and associated conditions.
- Musculoskeletal system: Learn vocabulary related to bones, muscles, joints, and movement.
- Urinary system: Review terms associated with the kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract.
- Female reproductive system: Become familiar with terminology related to female reproductive anatomy and common conditions.
- Male reproductive system: Explore terminology associated with male reproductive anatomy and related conditions.
Together, the two Boot-Camps provide participants with a broader foundation in medical terminology that can support continued learning and professional development.
Special Considerations for Arabic-Language Workshops
Because Arabic medical terminology can vary across dialects, additional time may be needed to address differences in vocabulary and usage. To accommodate these variations, the topics are distributed differently in the Arabic-language workshops.
Arabic Boot-Camp 1™ covers the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, while Arabic Boot-Camp 2™ covers the endocrine and digestive systems. This structure allows additional attention to dialectal terminology differences in these subject areas.
