Medical Interpreter Training Description:
| Medical interpreting requires specialized knowledge, professional skills, and a strong understanding of healthcare communication. For interpreters seeking to demonstrate their qualifications and advance their careers, certification preparation is an important step. REACH Diversity offers specialized interpreter training to help aspiring and practicing healthcare interpreters prepare for certification examinations offered by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI). This 40-hour medical interpreter training is one of the certification preparation courses offered by REACH. It is designed for individuals seeking to become certified healthcare interpreters. The course covers the key knowledge areas assessed in the written certification examinations and provides opportunities to practice the interpreting modes evaluated in the oral examination component. As the demand for healthcare interpreters continues to grow, linguists and bilingual professionals increasingly need to distinguish themselves in a competitive job market and demonstrate their qualifications to prospective employers. The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) offer nationally recognized professional credentials that demonstrate healthcare interpreting competency, including Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI™), Core Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CoreCHI™), and Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI™). Learning objectives: • Understand healthcare and medical terminology, including body systems, medical specialties, medical tests, diagnostic procedures and treatment • Learn the most current legislation and regulations both at national and California state level •Understand roles, protocols, standards and ethics that guide interpreters on how to prepare for and manage an interpreting encounter, interact with other healthcare professionals and demonstrate cultural responsiveness and competence. •Recognize when to switch between interpreting modes Participants who achieve a cumulative score of 80% or higher across all quizzes will receive a Certificate of Completion. Participants whose cumulative quiz score is below 80% will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Both certificates may be submitted during the application process for either certification to document completion of the minimum 40 hours of medical interpreting training. However, participants who receive a Certificate of Attendance are strongly encouraged to dedicate additional time to independent study and/or further training before applying for the written certification examination to strengthen their knowledge and readiness. | Online Self-Paced Attendance Complete the 40-hour medical Interpreter training when is most convenient to you at your own pace.
