Medical Interpreter Training Description:
Healthcare Interpreters are language professionals who work in the medical setting to facilitate communication between healthcare providers, patients, family members and care-takers when they do not share the same language, whether spoken or signed. This 40-hour medical interpreter training is one of the certification prep trainings that REACH offers and it is designed to prepare individuals who are interested in becoming certified interpreters in the healthcare/medical sector. The medical interpreter training covers all topics under the knowledge areas that are tested in the written examinations of the , and it provides an opportunity to practice the modes of interpreting tested in the oral component. As the demand healthcare interpreters increases, so does that the need for linguists and bilingual professionals to place themselves competitively in the marketplace as they seek job opportunities as interpreters. The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters provide a nationwide professional credential of competency to Certified Healthcare Interpreters (CHI™), Core Certified Healthcare Interpreters (CoreCHI™) and Certified Medical Interpreters (CMI™). Learning objectives: • Understand healthcare and medical terminology, including body systems, medical specialties, medical tests, diagnostic procedures and treatment • Learn the most current legislation and regulations both at national and California state level •Understand roles, protocols, standards and ethics that guide interpreters on how to prepare for and manage an interpreting encounter, interact with other healthcare professionals and demonstrate cultural responsiveness and competence. •Recognize when to switch between interpreting modes Participants receive a Certificate of Completion upon obtaining a cumulative score of 80% or above for all quizzes. Participants with a cumulative score below 80% in quizzes will receive a Certificate of Attendance. Both types of Certificates can be used during the application process for either Certification to meet the minimum requirement of 40 hours of training in medical interpreting. Those who receive a Certificate of Attendance are particularly advised to spend additional self-study time and/or additional time training before applying for the Written Examination for Certification. | Online Self-Paced Attendance Complete the 40-hour medical Interpreter training when is most convenient to you at your own pace. Self-Paced Training $500.00** **The self-paced medical interpreter training fee is exclusive to interpreters who register individually, and it is not applicable when REACH serves as a vendor to organizations that seek to train staff members/groups.
